Cookie policy

Updated

Short version: nothing is stored in your browser for statistics or advertising unless you say yes in the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time under . Separately, YouTube may set cookies after you press play on a video.

Your choice

The first time you visit, a banner asks whether we may use cookies. Saying no is as easy as saying yes, and where there is more than one category you can choose one by one. Until you answer, and if you reject, the services below aren't loaded at all: your browser never contacts them.

To change or withdraw your choice, open here or use the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. When you withdraw, the cookies listed below are deleted from your browser. We ask again after 6 months.

Strictly necessary

NameWhereWhat it doesKept for
oo-consentlocal storageRemembers your answer to the cookie banner: yes or no per category, and the date.6 months

This entry needs no consent, because without it we couldn't respect your answer. The site has no login and no shopping cart, so there is nothing else in this category.

Our basic page-view counts (Vercel Web Analytics) work without cookies or similar storage. See the privacy policy for how they work.

Statistics cookies (only if you agree)

Google Analytics, from Google Ireland Limited, shows us which pages are read, where visitors come from and which videos are played.

NameWhat it doesKept for

_ga_ followed by our property IDKeeps track of the current visit.2 years

Once loaded, these services may also set cookies on their own domains (for example google.com or facebook.com), under their own policies. The privacy policy explains what data each of them receives.

YouTube, after you press play

Each video is shown first as a still picture that we host ourselves. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. Then the YouTube player loads from youtube-nocookie.com, Google's "privacy-enhanced mode", and from that point Google may store cookies or similar data (such as local storage) in your browser and read them, under Google's privacy policy and how Google uses cookies.

We don't control these cookies and can't read them. If you'd rather avoid them:

  • don't press play on the embedded video; every video also has a "Watch on YouTube" link;
  • or delete them, or block third-party cookies, in your browser settings.

Buttons such as "Subscribe" and "Watch on YouTube" are ordinary links. They take you to youtube.com, where YouTube's own cookie rules apply.
